Featured in California Wedding Day Magazine!

Posted in Flowers, Goodness, Press, Wedding Trends on 11.09.12

When California Wedding Day magazine reached out to me to style a table featuring a non-traditional vases for a centerpiece, I jumped at the opportunity to design something music-inspired.  Samantha from Primary Petals brought my inspiration to life and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the results.  A special thank you to Jill from Copper Willow Studio for designing the gorgeous paper suite.

Velveteen Rabbit Baby Shower

Posted in Flowers, Goodness, My Life, Real Weddings on 28.03.12

I had the honor of co-hosting a baby shower for my sister-in-law Janae up in Ojai last Fall.  The theme of the shower needed to be gender neutral so I took inspiration from Janae’s favorite childhood book: The Velveteen Rabbit.   This shower was featured on Hostess With the Mostess a few months ago but I’m posting a few more photos by Krista Mason Photography!

We used rich, rustic materials such as burlap, cotton, velvets and wood.  Vintage spools of thread and small jars of buttons were placed throughout the tablescapes.  The floral arrangements were designed in vintage depression glass, birch wrapped vases and mason jars.  The bright colors were phenomenal – they popped against all of the natural elements.

The guest book was a copy of The Velveteen Rabbit.  We asked guests to write a note to the baby in the book’s cover.

Fujiko’s Flowers handmade the whimsical doily chandelier than hung over the guest of honor’s table as well as the napkins from the fabric I selected from Joann Fabric.  I fell in love with the napkin’s print as soon as I saw it!

The vintage toys were provided by both Fujiko’s Flowers and myself.  Some were purchased on eBay or flea markets, and others actually belonged to us.

Janae loves Vanilla Creme Soda, which is why Boylan’s Vintage Soda was chosen as the party favors.  I soaked the original labels off and designed custom labels to replace them.  This was a fun and budget friendly favor; they cost approximately $1.75 each in the end.  The grosgrain ribbons were adorable tied onto the striped straws.  It took a while, but I sewed tiny buttons on each one!

The cake by CAKEGoodness was breathtaking – the rabbit detail was picked up from the rabbit glassware from Anthropologie.  I set the cake atop a wooden box draped with velveteen fabric.

The invitations were hand-made by me.  I spray-mounted thick card stock onto burlap from Joann Fabric and sewed a tiny button at the top.  I also designed the menus using the Paper Bag cover weight paper from Paper Source.
